Year 5 and 6 students will be going to the Drama Unit for a Greek Theatre Play and workshop.
Din is-sena beda s-servizz tan-Nurture Class fl-iskola ta’ Ħal Lija. Fin-Nurture Class it-tfal isibu ambjent li jgħinhom iħossuhom tajbin magħhom infushom u milqugħa. Huwa post fejn jingħataw iktar ħin u opportunita’ jitkellmu fuq dak li jħossu u jissudaw il-ħiliet li għandhom bżonn biex jiffaċċjaw l-isfidi tal-ħajja. Jitgħallmu l-valuri tar-rispett, l-ubbidjenza, l-imħabba u t-tolleranza f’ambjent sabih li jixbaħ lil dak tad- dar. Jaqsmu l-esperjenzi tagħhom ma’ tfal bħalhom u jaħdmu fi grupp. Is-servizz tan-Nurture Class jgħin lill-istudenti jiżviluppaw dawk il-kwalitajiet neċessarji biex jirnexxu, u jircievu edukazzjoni sħiħa.
Din is-sena ħsibna sabiex għaż-żmien tal-Milied inrawmu fl-istudenti tagħna il-valur tas-Solidarjeta’ ma’ dawk li huma fil-bżonn, anke nies li ma jafux personalment. Fit-tliet paroċċi li minnhom ġejjin it-tfal – Ħal Lija, Ħal Balzan u l-Iklin – hemm numru ta’ persuni u familji fil-bżonn. Għaldaqstant ħeġġiġna lill-istudenti sabiex iġibu mid-dar affarijiet tal-ikel bħal għaġin, ħelu, bottijiet tal-priserv, u affarijiet oħra. Il-ġenerożita’ li wrew it-tfal kienet waħda inkredibbli tant li mlejna 24 ħamper daqs bajda bl-affarijiet. Stedinna imbagħad lill-kappillani tat-tliet paroċċi u tajna tmien ħampers lil-kull kappillan biex iqassamhom lin-nies fil-bżonn fil-parroċċa. Kienet attivita’ li żgur ħalliet il-ġid u nittamaw li tibda ssir kull sena. Grazzi mill-qalb lil kull min ta’ sehmu biex din l-attivita’ kienet suċċess.

As part of the Design and Technology project, we designed a box and turned it into a memory chest in order to put keepsakes in and preserve them for the future. We then did a write up describing the process steps – from design to implementation.

This is a creative writing activity in which students worked in groups in order to create ideas and develop solutions to improve our environment.
On Thursday 15th April, as part of Healthy Lifestyle Week, our students participated in a bikethlon organised by Birkirkara St. Joseph Sports Club. The event took place just outside the school and in the driveway of the University Residence opposite the school. Year 4, 5 and 6 students participated in the activity which was really fun!
As part of Healthy Lifestyle Week, students from Year 6A prespared puppet shows for students in Kindergarten 1 and 2 and Years 1 and 2. Students worked in groups and wrote a script for the puppet show about helthy living. Among the topics which featured the most were the importance of eating fruit and vegetables and of doing some form of physical activity everyday. It was a very educational experience both for the students who prepared the puppet shows and also for those who wathced. Here are some pictures of the activity!
Year 6C students together with their teacher Ms. Rita Debono prepared these charts about different types of animals for a special assembly. Students were divided into groups and each group chose a particular group of animals like, for example, farm animals, animals that fly, pets and so on. Then they cut out pictures of these animals and organised them to make an interesting chart. These are the charts these students made!
As part of Healthy Fun Week our students took part in a walk to San Anton Gardens which are a short distance from our school. Through this activity, students learned about the importance of physical exercise – in this case, walking – and admired the beauty of these gardens in central Malta. On-site and follow-up activities were also organised by the respective teachers. These photos show Year 6 students at San Anton Gardens as well as pictures drawn by Year 1 students.
Another Dinja Waħda activity carried out by Year 6 students was “The Wall!” focussing on rubble walls found in the Maltese countryside and their importance as habitats for plants and animals. The activity was carried out in a rural area just outside the village of Lija. Students were given a worksheet to fill in with their observations. After being given a short explanation by the teacher, students had time to observe and note down on their worksheets what they saw on and around the rubble wall. In class, after a short discussion, the students drew pictures of rubble walls and the creatures and plants that live around them. Here are some pictures showing the activity!
